Inpatient Massage
The Teal Center has worked to build a thriving clinical massage program working with patients inside Virginia Hospital Center since 2005. Our team of massage therapists joined the ranks of the palliative care team in the winter of 2007 and the Emergency Department in summer of 2008. In addition to these two departments, The Teal Center’s massage therapy team provides therapeutic and comfort touch massage to patients throughout the hospital; in the ICU, Mother/Baby, Oncology, Acute Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Inpatient Rehabilitation, Hospice, post-surgical units and other departments, as needed.
Doctors, nurses, patients, family members and friends can schedule an appointment for an inpatient to receive a massage. The patient’s doctor needs to approve the request before the patient can be seen by a massage therapist. The Teal Center staff will facilitate that approval promptly in order to insure the patient receives a safe, authorized massage as soon as possible. There is always some degree of touch that can be provided regardless of the condition of the patient. A therapist will be happy to visit any hospital room to provide appropriately adapted massage therapy.
