At Virginia Hospital Center, our massage therapists and acupuncturists offer relaxation and pain relief to patients, staff, visitors and members of the community. We offer specialized care for persons undergoing treatment for cancer and for women during pregnancy and following childbirth. In the hospital we offer labor and delivery support as well as bedside massage for post-partum moms. We also see inpatients before and after surgery, during inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, and provide comfort care for persons near the end of life.
We are located on the main floor of the 1701 building, in the lobby of the Women and Infant Health wing of the hospital. In addition to working with hospital staff and members of the public, the Teal Center’s therapists and acupuncturists also have the privilege of working with clients who have been referred from doctor’s offices, the hospital’s physical therapy and cardiac rehabilitation departments, and from a variety of other groups within the hospital system and the Arlington community.
Donate to Support Inpatient Massage
It is the goal of The Teal Center’s Virginia Hospital Center team to make massage therapy available to any inpatient who wants to receive it and to make massage therapy services available to all patients going through cancer treatment.
Currently, Teal Center therapists receive pay for less than 25% of the work they do with inpatients at the hospital. A full 75% of the work is provided as a service to the community because many patients are not able to pay this “out of pocket” expense.
In addition to the pro bono work we provide to inpatients we also have a limited number of sessions available, at a discounted price, to patients who are in treatment for cancer. The Teal Center absorbs the cost of this discount and has to limit the number of sessions in order to meet its financial obligations as a business. We would like to be able to offer more of these sessions at more regular intervals.
The Teal Center has partnered with the Virginia Hospital Center Foundation in our efforts to raise funds to pay therapists for their work with inpatients and their support in the oncology community.
