A Healthy Choice for You and Your Baby

Massage cannot completely relieve all of the discomfort of pregnancy, but it can be invaluable in helping you cope with the physical and emotional changes that can make pregnancy challenging, so you can be free to enjoy this first part of the journey!

Massage is Safe and Healthy During Every Stage of Pregnancy
The massage therapists at The Teal Center are trained in the stages of pregnancy and are well-acquainted with the changes taking place in your body every step of the way. We will help you to be as comfortable as possible with the use of pillows and positioning that are uniquely tailored to your individual needs. You will be draped with a sheet everywhere except the area that is being massaged and you can feel free to express your needs with regard to temperature, position, pressure and any other concerns before, during and after every session.

Stress Relief During Pregnancy
Massage increases circulation and calms the nervous system. The social and physical changes which take place during and after pregnancy can make you tired, anxious and less able to cope with day-to-day stress. Massage increases energy, brings nutrients to places in your body where they are most needed and flushes energy-sapping metabolic waste from your muscles and tissues.

Easing Physical and Emotional Symptoms
Constipation, gas, heartburn and other digestive problems are common during pregnancy. These sorts of digestive issues are unpleasant and they can lead to headaches from the buildup of metabolic waste as well as bloating and edema. Many women also begin to develop varicose veins because of the additional stress on the circulatory system caused by the weight and metabolic needs of the developing baby. The increase in circulation and speeding of metabolic processes that result from massage therapy can help to alleviate all of these symptoms.

Preparing for Labor
Massage keeps you in touch with your body as it changes during pregnancy. Your massage therapist can facilitate valuable self-awareness and share relaxation techniques that will help you go into the birthing process with a feeling of increased confidence and control.

Massage Can Ease Pain and Speed the Birthing Process
Stress interferes with the production of labor-inducing hormones, thereby slowing the birthing process. While it is not always possible to have your massage therapist present while you are in labor, he/she can show you and your birthing partner some simple techniques to ease the process.

Postpartum Self-Care
It is easy to forget to take care of yourself after the baby arrives. That baby will need a lot of your energy and attention. Meanwhile, your body is on an 8-week crash course to return itself to its pre-pregnancy state. Massage can be a key ingredient in easing the transitions both inside and outside of your body.
