The Teal Center Celebrates 25th Anniversary with Major Expansion

On Sunday February 1 from 1 to 3pm, The Teal Center for Therapeutic Bodywork will open its doors to a brand new Classroom and Community Space at its Randolph Towers location in Ballston, Virginia. The Teal Center Classroom and Community Space launches with a variety of programming, including weekly Qi-Gong, continuing education for massage therapists, and community workshops and lectures that span the wellness spectrum from movement and sound exploration to astrology for healthy living. (Those interested in finding out more about the new programs can find them here: www.tealcenter.com/events-classes.) Participants will enjoy a classroom space flooded with natural light, with close proximity to public transportation, restaurants, and The Teal Center’s team of therapists ready to treat you after that invigorating yoga class or thought-provoking lecture. In addition to the 30’ x 26’ classroom, The Teal Center added four new treatment rooms and completely renovated its original space as well.

This latest expansion, which coincides with The Teal Center’s 25th Anniversary, offers a natural extension of Teal’s mission. “It is time for us to expand our mission beyond our clinical massage therapy, bodywork and acupuncture with individual clients to include community and educational opportunities, further supporting the growth of professionalism in our field and providing a space for people to actively engage in creating better health for themselves,” says Brenda Teal, founder and director of The Teal Center.
Brenda Teal has been an advocate for natural pain relief and a pioneer in the field of bodywork for nearly three decades. She started working as a Neuromuscular Massage Therapist out of her home 30 years ago. As her clientele grew and she saw the need for natural alternatives to pain relief, she opened The Teal Center at Randolph Towers in 1990, and soon added acupuncture and cranial sacral therapy to the breadth of modalities offered as well as a fellowship where she mentored new massage therapists. In 2007, Virginia Hospital Center invited Ms. Teal to open a second location at the hospital, where The Teal Center continues to serves inpatients as well as the public, with massage therapists and acupuncturists specializing in oncology as well as pre- and post-natal treatment. In 2009, further proving her dedication to the cause, Ms.Teal co-founded Healwell, a non-profit organization that helps patients living with acute, chronic and terminal illness regardless of their ability to pay and also trains therapists to work in hospital settings.

As a small business founded not ony therapist, but also an educator, providing a physical space for education is the perfect step for the Teal Center to take in its 25th year. “Our vision is to provide a space for people to come together to learn and share and create better health,” Teal says.  “Our goal is to connect with others who are passionate about wellness and natural healing and to create a strong community around these common interests.”
